What’s in a name?

I’ve been asked to add my voice to an online petition several times in the last few days. It seems that a number of my alumni are horrified and shocked that there is talk of changing the name of Rhodes University. According to the petition that is doing the rounds, such renaming of my educational institution would “degrade my degree” and destroy the history of the university

Zoo City Review

Lauren Beukes is very clever. I had suspected as much when I finished Moxyland, her first novel, and any doubts on the matter were lovingly murdered in their sleep by Zoo City. It’s a difficult novel to place, genre-wise, which is a mark in it’s favor, as far as I’m concerned; Beukes could very easily have written a perfectly competent South African crime novel, or an ambiguous slice of ‘magical realism.

Film as an Art Form

How many of you have watched a movie, just a regular movie, and thought “Wow that was really an artwork!”, and no I don’t mean “Wow that girl in that movie was so hot her body was an artwork!”.
