Lauren Beukes is very clever. I had suspected as much when I finished Moxyland, her first novel, and any doubts on the matter were lovingly murdered in their sleep by Zoo City. It’s a difficult novel to place, genre-wise, which is a mark in it’s favor, as far as I’m concerned; Beukes could very easily have written a perfectly competent South African crime novel, or an ambiguous slice of ‘magical realism.

How many of you have watched a movie, just a regular movie, and thought “Wow that was really an artwork!”, and no I don’t mean “Wow that girl in that movie was so hot her body was an artwork!”. Well, it’s pretty simple. If you’d interrupt dinner to social network, then you are definitely hooked to social media. Social networking is everywhere, believe it or not.
