CONVERSE REBELS ON

28 Jul, 2010

AFTER a rather successful launch marathon in June in the tow major cities of Johannesburg and Cape Town of its streetwise footwear, clothing and accessories brand, Converse, is holding up the spirit of optimistic rebellion amongst the South African youth and fashion scene.

The brand kicked off the campaign with creative exhibitions of its new footwear range and by introducing the Optimistic Rebels concept to the media and social personalities. The saga continuesover the next five months as Converse will be giving the public appetizing bites into what it means to be an Optimistic Rebel.

Being an Optimistic Rebel goes beyond clothes it also taps into lifestyle. It is certainly not about the rich&famous, the glitz or the glam, on the contrary, it is about young blood with fresh ideas, unexplored talent, bursting creativity, active minds, an intense zeal for life and raw street credibility… All the things being what the brand ultimately stands for.

It engenders five social spheres that define the life and times of the “Y-Generation” i.e. Music&Dance; Art; Comedy; Life and Learn. Befittingly, Converse has elected six “Y-Gener’s” to represent these spheres: Dancer Thabiso Lekubu as Music&Dance, Graffiti Writer Dave Coxall and Thato Nhlapo Da Poet as Art; Standup Comedian Phaswane Motshana as Comedy, Beatboxer Sipho Ludonga as Life and finally Parkour Jacky Kwan Tai Ho as Learn. Each of these six individuals are Optimistic Rebels in their own right; living for high energy moments and constantly striving to ‘make things happen’ in everyday life through the culturing and expression of their disciplines.

As the story unfolds, South Africa will get to meet each ambassador, know their story, learn more about their craft, the when, the where and the how about their skills and how each individual captures their elected sphere.

Each ambassador will be representing a brand from the five Converse sub-brands i.e. All Star, represented by Thabiso Lekuba; Chuck Taylor, represented by Dave Coxall; One Star, represented by Phaswane Motshana; Star Chevron, represented by Jacky Kwan Tai Ho; Jack Purcell which will be represented by Sipho Ludonga and last but not least…an all rounder Thato Nhlapo “Da Poet”! These partnerships will portray how synergetic relationships are created between Converse and the lives and lifestyles of different types of people in our diverse country. - GABIVILLE
